Definition
Branded caller ID is a service that shows a business’s verified name on the screen of the person it calls, instead of only a phone number. Depending on the carrier and phone, it can also show a logo and the reason for the call, such as a service appointment or a vehicle inquiry.

What it means for a dealership
It matters because dealerships make a lot of outbound calls, and many people don’t answer numbers they don’t recognize. A BDC agent following up on a lead, an advisor calling about a repair and an F&I manager chasing a missing document all look like unknown callers without it. With branded caller ID, the customer sees the dealership’s name before deciding whether to answer.
Branded caller ID is not the same as STIR/SHAKEN. STIR/SHAKEN is the caller ID authentication framework the FCC requires voice providers to use on IP networks. It checks whether a caller has the right to use the number shown, but as the FCC notes, it does not tell people who is calling. Branded caller ID adds that. Newer standards such as Rich Call Data build on STIR/SHAKEN to carry a verified name, logo and call reason.
The name only helps if the call gets through. If a dealership’s outbound numbers pick up spam or telemarketer labels from carrier call analytics, customers may see a warning instead, or the call may be blocked. Register each outbound line, keep call cadence reasonable and monitor every number for labels.
In practice
A service advisor calls a customer about a brake repair estimate. Instead of an unknown local number, the customer’s phone shows the dealership’s name, its logo and the call reason "Repair update", so the customer picks up and approves the work.
Questions
Does branded caller ID work on every phone?
No. What the customer sees depends on their carrier and phone. Some show the name, logo and call reason, some show only the name and some show the number alone. Ask a provider which carriers and devices it reaches before you sign.
